1/9/2008 Cucamonga Valley Water District joins Statewide Campaign to Educate the Public about Water Issues 

Rancho Cucamonga, CA – You may have noticed a recent increase in water-related advertisements on television, the radio and in the newspaper. Everywhere you turn, you hear about water, its value and the need for each of us to conserve it. In September 2007, the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) kicked-off a statewide public education campaign entitled "California's Water: A Crisis We Can't Ignore." The campaign is designed to educate Californians about critical challenges now confronting the state's water supply and delivery system, including a deepening crisis in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and a recent court-ordered reduction in our statewide water supply. The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) has made a commitment to join the campaign and partner with ACWA on this valuable educational outreach program. ACWA has taken a leadership role throughout the state of California to promote water conservation to all. Their television advertising features images of the Delta in northern California, where nearly 50% of southern California's water comes from. The challenges in our statewide water system could have significant impacts on our quality of life, environment, agricultural production, and the general economy. ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose 450 members are collectively responsible for 90% of the water delivered in California. The Cucamonga Valley Water District has been a member of ACWA for over 15 years, and is committed to the California Water Crisis campaign. "Partnering with ACWA to spread the message of conservation is extremely valuable to all water agencies in California," stated James V. Curatalo, Jr., President of the CVWD Board of Directors. "With a consistent conservation message, all agencies and water customers throughout California can work together to conserve our valuable resource of water." To educate CVWD customers about the impact of California’s water crisis locally a workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2008. The workshop is entitled "California's Water Crisis: A Local Issue" and will address the California water crisis and issues impacting the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta. Customers are invited to come learn how events that occur nearly 400 miles away impact local water supplies and what efforts are being taken to ensure our water supply continues to be reliable. "We invite all customers to come learn more about their water supply, and to let us know the issues that are on their minds," stated Robert A. DeLoach, General Manager/ CEO of the Cucamonga Valley Water District. "The feedback from our customers is imperative for us to ensure we are meeting their needs." The workshop will be held at the Goldy Lewis Community Center, located at 11200 Baseline Road in Rancho Cucamonga, and will begin at 6 pm.
