04/25/2011 - Rancho Cucamonga, ca - Sustainable Demonstration Building Can be Visited Virtually more

Rancho Cucamonga, CA (April 22, 2011) - In celebration of Earth Day today, the Frontier Project, a sustainable demonstration building in Rancho Cucamonga, can now be visited online in Second Life, without guests leaving their homes.  Second Life, a free 3D virtual world where users can socialize, customize an avatar, and connect with one another, allows people from all over the world to interact virtually. And now the Frontier Project, whose mission is to demonstrate environmental sustainability, is one step closer to educating people everywhere on how they can be better environmental stewards.

“The fact that the Frontier Project can now be visited by people all over the world- without them actually getting on a plane or in their car- is truly incredible,” commented Kathleen J. Tiegs, Chairman of the Frontier Project Foundation, a non-profit foundation established by the Cucamonga Valley Water District. “We have seen thousands of visitors come through the building in our first eighteen months of being open, and I can only imagine how many more ‘visitors’ we will get now that the building can be seen online.”

Click to see larger! All aspects of the Frontier Project can be visited in Second Life, including taking a guided tour of the building and the gardens, learning about the products and systems used throughout the building, and even participating in workshops that are going on. The Frontier Project was designed in Second Life by 2B3D, a virtual worlds company that provides development and consulting services for educational institutions and corporations who want to have a presence in Second Life.

The Frontier Project is open Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am to 3pm; but open 24-hours a day in Second Life.  To visit Second Life, click here. For more information, about the Frontier Project Foundation, please visit www.frontierproject.org or call 909.944.6025.

03/09/2011 - Water District Partners with Local Schools - Students Receive the Benefits

Rancho Cucamonga, CA (March 9, 2011) –The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD) recently donated 25 retired computers, printers, and network equipment to the Cucamonga and Etiwanda School Districts. This program was made available through a brokered agreement established in 2009 with the five school districts in the CVWD service area.

“The agreement allows CVWD to donate the equipment for use in classrooms and campus offices, thereby extending the equipment’s useful life” stated Jay Trunnell, CVWD’s Information Technology Officer. Prior to the agreement CVWD would scrap it’s used electronic equipment.

In most cases this equipment was no longer serviceable for our needs as critical infrastructure, but the equipment can still serve a valuable role in a less demanding setting. In 2009, CVWD donated over 100 pieces of retired computer and network equipment to the five school districts.

“We are pleased that our staff has developed a creative way to give back to schools in our community”, stated Kathleen J. Tiegs, CVWD Board President. The District has partnered in the past with school districts in our service area and has an ongoing educational program to teach students about conservation and the environment.

For more information regarding these programs please visit our website at www.cvwdwater.com or contact the Office of Public Affairs at 909-987-2591.
